Ask An Educator | Contact a Senior Educator for assistance during your course
Ask an Educator is one of your key Student Services and your go-to point of contact when you need individual learning support outside of your scheduled training and support sessions.
Whether you're completing an undergraduate or postgraduate course, Ask an Educator gives you access to an experienced Pilates ITC Educator who can help you clarify course content, work through questions and understand how to apply your learning.
You don't need to wait until your next scheduled session or contact a particular Educator. If you have a learning question and you're not sure where to take it, Ask an Educator is the best place to start.
Knowing Who to Ask
There are different support avenues available throughout your studies, and knowing where to direct your question will help us get you the right support as quickly as possible.
Ask an Educator — for learning support
Ask an Educator is your go-to for questions about your learning.
This includes questions about:
coursework and LMS learning content;
theory, repertoire and movement concepts;
assessment tasks and assessment feedback;
preparing for a submission or resubmission;
applying your learning in Teaching Practice;
Work Placement activities and requirements; and
how course concepts connect with your teaching or professional practice.
If your question is about what you're learning, how to understand it or how to apply it, start with Ask an Educator.
Student Support — for administrative support
Student Support is your go-to for the administration and logistics of your studies.
Contact Student Support for help with things such as:
enrolment and course administration;
course fees and payments;
course dates, bookings and scheduling;
accessing your LMS or other Pilates ITC systems;
technical issues;
forms and administrative documentation;
course extensions, deferments or changes to your enrolment; and
other administrative questions relating to your studies.
If your question is about managing your enrolment or accessing your course rather than the learning itself, Student Support is the best place to start.
Lead Educator + Personalised Supervision Meetings — Blended postgraduate Students
If you're completing postgraduate study through the Blended study mode, you'll also have a Lead Educator and scheduled Personalised Supervision Meetings (PSMs) as part of your Work Placement support.
Your Lead Educator provides structured oversight of your Work Placement and makes the final judgement of its successful completion. Your PSMs are dedicated opportunities to review your Work Placement progress, reflect on your professional experiences and discuss how you're applying and integrating your postgraduate learning within your professional practice.
Your Lead Educator is not your contact for ad hoc learning, assessment or administrative questions between meetings.
For those questions:
Learning or Work Placement question → Ask an Educator
Administrative or technical question → Student Support
This allows your PSM time with your Lead Educator to remain focused on its intended purpose: Work Placement supervision, reflection, progress and professional development.
Postgraduate Students completing the Online study mode do not attend PSMs, but have access to Ask an Educator for individual learning, assessment and Work Placement support throughout their studies.
What Can I Use Ask an Educator For?
You can contact Ask an Educator for support with:
Coursework and LMS content – clarification of concepts, theory, repertoire or learning activities you're working through.
Assessment questions – help understanding what an assessment task is asking you to demonstrate.
Assessment feedback – further clarification or direction after receiving feedback from your Assessor.
Preparing for submission or resubmission – guidance when you're unsure whether you're approaching a task correctly.
Repertoire and skill development – questions about exercises, movement concepts, teaching techniques or the practical application of your coursework.
Work Placement questions – clarification about Work Placement requirements, activities, Logbooks or whether a proposed activity is appropriate.
Teaching and Client application – questions about how your developing course knowledge may be appropriately applied within Teaching Practice, including programming, repertoire, cueing, progressions and adaptations.
Knowing where to go next – if you're unsure which Pilates ITC service or resource is best placed to help, Ask an Educator can point you in the right direction.
Ask an Educator + Undergraduate Students
As an undergraduate Student, Ask an Educator supports you as you build your Pilates knowledge, teaching skills and confidence throughout your course.
You might use Ask an Educator when you need help:
understanding theory, repertoire or concepts within your coursework;
interpreting an assessment task;
understanding feedback from an Assessor;
preparing to resubmit an assessment;
connecting what you're learning in the LMS with your practical teaching;
preparing for a Teaching Clinic or Practical Assessment; or
working through a learning question that has arisen during Work Placement.
Undergraduate Work Placement
Ask an Educator can also help you understand your Work Placement requirements and work through learning questions that arise as you begin applying your skills within a professional Pilates environment.
This might include questions about:
Observation or Teaching Practice requirements;
completing your Work Placement Logbook;
applying coursework during Work Placement;
teaching considerations, repertoire or programming;
understanding what activities can contribute towards your required hours; or
identifying areas you need to continue developing.
Ask an Educator complements rather than replaces the supervision, verification and other Work Placement requirements specified for your undergraduate course.
Ask an Educator + Postgraduate Students
As a postgraduate Student, you're already a qualified Pilates teacher. Ask an Educator therefore takes on a slightly different role.
Rather than teaching you how to become a teacher, our Educators can support you to explore, question and apply your developing postgraduate knowledge within your existing professional practice.
You might contact Ask an Educator about:
advanced repertoire, theory or movement concepts;
applying new learning within your existing teaching;
programming, sequencing, cueing, progressions or adaptations;
connecting coursework with a Client or teaching scenario;
understanding assessment requirements or feedback;
questions arising as you integrate postgraduate concepts into your professional practice; or
areas of your postgraduate learning you'd like help exploring further.
As an existing professional, you're encouraged to bring your own experience and professional reasoning to these conversations. Ask an Educator is there to help you explore and develop your thinking, rather than prescribe every decision you make within your practice.
Ask an Educator + Postgraduate Work Placement
For postgraduate Students, Ask an Educator is your first point of contact for ad hoc Work Placement questions.
Your postgraduate Work Placement is intentionally integrated into your existing professional teaching practice. As you apply advanced coursework with your Clients, observe professional practice and undertake Self-Mastery, it's natural for questions to emerge.
You don't need to save these questions for a Lead Educator or wait until a scheduled support session.
You can use Ask an Educator for questions such as:
whether a particular activity can contribute towards your Work Placement requirements;
applying new repertoire or concepts within your Teaching Practice;
programming, sequencing, cueing, progressions or adaptations;
connecting theory with your professional practice;
Advanced Observation requirements;
Advanced Self-Mastery requirements;
Work Placement Logbook requirements or evidence;
something you've encountered in your teaching that relates directly to your coursework; or
clarification of your Work Placement Specs.
If you're completing the Blended study mode, questions that require immediate or ad hoc guidance should still come through Ask an Educator rather than being held for your next PSM.
Your PSM can then remain focused on the bigger picture of your Work Placement development — reflecting on your experiences, reviewing progress and considering how your postgraduate learning is evolving within your professional practice.
What Ask an Educator Can + Can't Do
Ask an Educator is designed to support your learning and professional reasoning, not complete or pre-assess your work for you.
Our Educators can:
clarify concepts or requirements;
help you interpret assessment instructions;
explain assessment feedback;
ask questions that help you work through a learning challenge;
help you connect theory with practical application;
direct you towards relevant course resources;
help you understand Work Placement requirements; and
provide guidance about appropriate next steps.
Ask an Educator cannot:
provide answers to assessment questions for you;
complete programming, written responses or other assessed work on your behalf;
review an entire assessment before submission and confirm that it will be marked satisfactory;
make an assessment decision outside the formal assessment process;
provide individual medical, diagnostic or health advice about a Client;
take responsibility for professional decisions you make within your own teaching practice; or
replace any supervision, verification or assessment requirement specified within your course.
For postgraduate Students in particular, Ask an Educator supports you to develop your own advanced professional reasoning. As an existing qualified teacher, you remain responsible for making appropriate professional decisions for your Clients within your scope of practice.
Not Sure Where Your Question Belongs?
Don't worry about getting it perfect.
If it's primarily about your learning, assessment, Teaching Practice or Work Placement, start with Ask an Educator.
If it's primarily about your enrolment, fees, course administration, access or a technical issue, start with Student Support.
If you're a Blended postgraduate Student and it's about reflecting on your Work Placement progress and professional development as part of your scheduled supervision, bring it to your Personalised Supervision Meeting with your Lead Educator.
If your question needs input from another part of the Pilates ITC team, we'll help direct it to the right place.
