Keeping Your Work Placement Logbook on Track
Your Work Placement is designed to develop progressively alongside your postgraduate learning — and your Work Placement Logbook should progress with you.
Keeping your Logbook current throughout your course makes it easier to track what you've completed, identify what is still required and ensure you have the appropriate verification or evidence for your activities.
A little organisation along the way can prevent a lot of unnecessary work later.
Update your Logbook regularly
Don't wait until the end of your course to complete your Work Placement records.
As you progress, make a habit of recording activities soon after you complete them, while the details are still fresh and any required verification or evidence is readily available.
Regularly updating your Logbook also gives you a much clearer picture of how your Work Placement is progressing alongside your coursework.
Know your requirements
Your Work Placement requirements will vary depending on the course or pathway you are completing.
Use your Work Placement Specs to understand the activities and hours required for your studies, and check your progress against these requirements regularly.
As you move through different areas of your coursework, consider how your Teaching Practice, Observation and Self-Mastery activities can intentionally support and consolidate what you are currently learning.
Build good Logbook habits
Throughout your Work Placement:
record activities soon after completing them;
ensure your entries are accurate and complete;
obtain required verification while it is readily available;
retain supporting evidence where required;
regularly compare your progress against your Work Placement Specs;
make sure the activities you complete meet the requirements relevant to your course or pathway;
keep your working Logbook securely saved and backed up; and
address questions or gaps as they arise rather than leaving them until the end of your course.
Keep your Work Placement connected to your learning
Your Logbook isn't simply a record of hours.
Work Placement provides an opportunity to apply, explore and consolidate your postgraduate learning within professional practice, so your activities should develop alongside the coursework you are completing.
Where possible, look for meaningful opportunities to connect your current area of study with your Teaching Practice, Observation and Self-Mastery.
The aim is to progressively build your advanced professional capability — not simply accumulate the required hours.
For Blended study mode Students
If you are completing your pathway through the Blended study mode, your scheduled Personalised Supervision Meetings (PSMs) provide regular opportunities to discuss your Work Placement progress with your Lead Educator.
Keep your Logbook current so these meetings can be used meaningfully to review your progress, reflect on your experiences, discuss how you are applying your learning and identify any areas where you may need further support.
Don't leave gaps until the end
If you notice that you are falling behind in a particular Work Placement requirement, are having difficulty accessing an appropriate activity or aren't sure whether something will count, seek guidance early.
Review your Work Placement Specs and the relevant guidance within the Work Placement section of your Student Knowledge Base Library.
If you still need support, contact Ask an Educator at askaneducator@pilatesitc.edu.au.
Keeping your Work Placement and Logbook moving steadily throughout your course will allow you to focus less on catching up with documentation — and more on using your professional practice as a meaningful part of your postgraduate learning.
