How To: Ask an Instructor to be my Supervisor

Edited

The Instructors you approach are under no obligation to agree to a Supervisor role: they may not have the capacity or desire to do it - and that's ok!

The good news is: there are plenty of Instructors who are willing to offer their support and give back to the Student community.

STEP 1: introduce yourself

"I am NAME, I'm a Pilates ITC Student studying COURSE, I am wondering if you are available to be my Work Placement Supervisor..."

STEP 2: explain what is involved in a Supervisor role

  • A Supervisor will need to sign a Supervisor Agreement in each Logbook.

    • This document confirms their appropriateness for the role.

  • You will need to periodically meet with your Supervisor.

    • Your Supervisor is required to sight your Logbook entries.

    • Provide brief, written feedback on and verification of your participation- and performance in Work Placement activities; and sign off. E.g. complete and sign administrative forms.

    • For remote or online Students, this can be completed digitally: scan and email Logbook(s), and correspond via Zoom/FaceTime and email.

STEP 3: discuss communication approach and timing

What is your Supervisor's preferred communication method, and when are they available to you?

  • Email.

  • In-person at the Studio: identify optimal times to meet up or discuss.

  • FaceTime/Zoom.

Your Supervisor likely has a full, professional schedule: be clear about availability and respect these boundaries.

STEP 4: map out check-ins

Arrange times to meet up so your Supervisor can witness your Logbook and complete the required documentation (signature and feedback).
