Total Hours: 11333NAT Advanced Diploma of the Pilates Method
Work Placement is where your postgraduate learning connects with your existing professional practice.
As a qualified Pilates teacher, you already have a professional environment in which to teach, observe, reflect and develop. Wherever possible, your Work Placement should be integrated into this environment, allowing you to apply your coursework directly within the work you are already doing.
This means your regular professional teaching can form an important part of your Work Placement. Rather than stepping away from your workplace to complete a separate placement, you are encouraged to use your existing Clients and teaching schedule to intentionally apply, explore and consolidate your developing postgraduate knowledge and skills in practice.
Depending on your course or pathway, your Work Placement includes Advanced Teaching Practice, Advanced Observation and Self-Mastery.
Your Work Placement is not simply about accumulating hours. The aim is to use your professional practice as an active learning environment — applying your coursework, reflecting on your experiences and progressively developing the advanced capabilities relevant to your studies.

Completing Work Placement within your professional environment
For most postgraduate Students, your existing workplace or professional teaching environment should be the primary setting for your Advanced Teaching Practice.
You can use your regular teaching schedule and existing Clients to complete eligible Teaching Practice hours, provided the activities meet the requirements of your course or pathway.
This allows your postgraduate learning to become part of your day-to-day professional development rather than something you complete separately from your work. As you progress through your coursework, look for opportunities to intentionally integrate your developing knowledge, repertoire, concepts and approaches into the teaching you are already doing.
You may also arrange dedicated Teaching Practice sessions where you would benefit from additional opportunities to explore or refine particular repertoire, concepts or teaching skills.
Advanced Observation
Advanced Observation gives you the opportunity to watch, analyse and reflect on Pilates teaching through the lens of your developing postgraduate knowledge.
You can complete up to 100% of your required Advanced Observation through the Pilates ITC Digital Studio, providing flexibility where access to appropriate late intermediate or advanced teaching environments is limited.
Where available to you, in-Studio Observation is also encouraged and can provide valuable insight into teaching, programming and professional decision-making within a live environment.
Refer to About Advanced Observation for guidance on completing and documenting these activities.
Advanced Self-Mastery
Self-Mastery provides the opportunity to experience your postgraduate learning in your own body, deepening your understanding of repertoire, movement concepts and the principles explored throughout your coursework.
Your Self-Mastery should be completed progressively throughout your studies, with the minimum weekly requirement outlined above.
Self-Mastery may be completed through a range of appropriate options, including the Pilates ITC Digital Studio, the monthly Advanced Diploma Online Class, appropriate in-Studio sessions and other approved live or online practice.
Where possible, your Self-Mastery should align with your current area of study so that your personal practice actively supports and consolidates your coursework.
Refer to About Advanced Self-Mastery for further guidance.
Making your Work Placement meaningful
However you complete your Work Placement, focus on the quality and relevance of the learning experience, not simply the accumulation of hours.
Use your Work Placement to:
intentionally apply your coursework within professional practice;
explore and refine advanced teaching skills and repertoire;
observe other teaching with a more discerning professional eye;
experience your developing knowledge through your own movement practice;
reflect on what you are learning and how it influences your teaching; and
progressively develop the advanced professional capabilities relevant to your course or pathway.
Your Work Placement Specs provide the specific requirements for your course or pathway. Use these alongside the Work Placement guidance within your Student Knowledge Base Library to plan and monitor your progress.
Your Work Placement Logbooks are housed within the Assessment section of your LMS, with training on how to complete them available within your Postgraduate Work Placement module.
The goal is to make Work Placement part of your professional development — bringing your postgraduate learning into the work you are already doing and allowing your practice to evolve alongside your studies.
