Lead Educator + Work Placement

Edited

Part of your Lead Educator’s role is to support the application of your advanced learning within your professional teaching environment and make the final judgement of completion of the Work Placement course requirement.

As an Advanced Student, Work Placement provides an important opportunity to put your developing knowledge and skills into practice within your own professional teaching environment. As an existing Pilates teacher, you can complete your Work Placement teaching hours through your regular professional teaching practice, applying and integrating the advanced curriculum as you progress through your course.

Throughout Work Placement, you are encouraged to reflect on your teaching experiences, explore new approaches and progressively apply your advanced theoretical and practical knowledge with the support of your Lead Educator and the broader Pilates ITC Educator team.

For students completing their pathway through the Blended study mode, regular, scheduled communication with your Lead Educator is also provided through Personalised Supervision Meeting(s). These meetings provide an opportunity to discuss Work Placement experiences, seek feedback and workshop the application of theoretical knowledge within your professional setting.

Completion of the total required Work Placement hours and associated Logbook requirements informs the final assessment of your Work Placement.

About Personalised Supervision Meetings (PSMs)

For students completing their pathway through the Blended study mode, Personalised Supervision Meetings are scheduled check-ins conducted online (Zoom, approx. 20 mins.) with your Lead Educator. Your Lead Educator will review your Logbook progress and associated evidence, discuss your Work Placement experiences and support you in progressing towards completion of the required hours and learning outcomes.

It is also a space to seek support specific to Work Placement activities, as outlined below.

Refer to your Course Schedule for your recommended PSM schedule.

Students completing their pathway through the Online study mode do not attend Personalised Supervision Meetings. Work Placement is completed within your professional teaching environment, with Educator support available through the other support services provided within your course.

How to utilise Personalised Supervision Meetings

Personalised Supervision Meetings are used to specifically address any concerns, questions or challenges encountered during Work Placement, including teaching practice and observation.

Advanced Students can use this time to:

  • Review and discuss completion progress to date.

  • Troubleshoot Work Placement time management.

  • Review and discuss completed teaching practice.

  • Seek feedback on your Work Placement experiences.

  • Workshop new ideas for teaching practice.

  • Brainstorm things to focus on in observation.

  • Discuss how you can best apply theoretical knowledge within your professional teaching environment.

  • Plan the focus for upcoming teaching activities.

  • Generally address questions, concerns, confusion or challenges relating to Work Placement.

Make the most out of your PSMs

Your Lead Educator will facilitate the session, but this is your opportunity to address your needs. We encourage you to come prepared with notes from Work Placement sessions, reflections, questions or specific topics you would like to explore.

The more actively you engage with your Work Placement, the more valuable and rewarding the experience will be. This is your opportunity to actively integrate your advanced learning into the teaching you are already doing — building confidence, refining your professional practice and extending your skills as you progress through the Advanced Diploma or associated Advanced Pathways.

Please note: Personalised Supervision Meetings are exclusively dedicated to Work Placement activities. Any questions related to coursework, assessments or general learning content should be directed through Ask an Educator (askaneducator@pilatesitc.edu.au) for timely support, or raised in monthly online Study Hall sessions.
