About Advanced Teaching
Advanced Teaching is where you intentionally apply your postgraduate learning within your professional teaching practice.
As an existing Pilates teacher, you can complete your Advanced Teaching within the professional environment in which you already work — using your regular teaching schedule and Clients to explore, apply and consolidate the knowledge and skills you are developing throughout your course.
At this level, Teaching Practice is about more than delivering repertoire. It is an opportunity to refine your instructional approach, explore more advanced programming and teaching strategies, and translate your developing theoretical and practical knowledge into meaningful experiences for the Clients you teach.
Use these hours to apply, experiment, reflect and refine — progressively integrating your postgraduate learning into the way you teach.
How to complete Advanced Teaching Practice
You can complete your Advanced Teaching Practice in ways that fit naturally within your existing professional practice.
You may:
apply your coursework and developing skills while teaching your existing Clients as part of your regular work; or
arrange dedicated practice sessions with suitable Clients, colleagues, friends, family members or other Students where you would benefit from additional opportunities to explore and refine particular skills or repertoire.
You are responsible for coordinating your Teaching Practice, including managing your schedule and, where required, arranging Clients, Studio space or other practical requirements.
Where to complete Advanced Teaching Practice
Most postgraduate Students will be able to complete their Advanced Teaching Practice within their existing workplace or professional teaching environment.
Where you would like or need access to an alternative environment, Teaching Practice may also be completed at an appropriate Pilates Studio, including participating Pilates ITC Instructor Training or Work Placement Studios, subject to availability and approval where required.
Making your Teaching Practice meaningful
Your required Teaching Practice hours provide an opportunity to deliberately bring your coursework into the work you are already doing.
As you progress, consider how you can use your teaching to:
integrate new repertoire, concepts and approaches;
refine cueing, sequencing and programming;
explore appropriate progressions and adaptations;
apply theoretical learning to individual Client needs;
develop confidence with late intermediate and advanced teaching; and
reflect on what worked, what you might change and how your teaching is evolving.
The goal is not simply to complete teaching hours, but to use those hours as part of your ongoing professional development.
Documenting your Advanced Teaching Practice
Record your completed Teaching Practice in your Work Placement Logbook as you progress and retain any supporting evidence required for verification.
Your Work Placement Logbook is available from the Assessment section of your LMS.
Verification of Teaching Practice hours
Your Teaching Practice hours must be recorded and verified in accordance with the requirements of your Work Placement Logbook.
Depending on how your Teaching Practice is completed, verification may be provided by:
your Lead Educator, where they are present for the teaching activity;
your Lead Educator, where appropriate evidence of completion can be provided, such as a booking-system record, roster or timesheet; or
the Client you taught during the recorded Teaching Practice.
A Client may be an existing paying Client within your professional practice or, where appropriate, a friend, family member or other Student participating in a dedicated practice session.
