Social Media Policy
Purpose
At Pilates ITC, we know that social media is a powerful space for learning, sharing, and connecting. This policy outlines how we create a respectful, supportive, and professional online environment—especially on platforms like our Student Facebook Forum. It also helps protect your privacy and ensures that everyone interacting through Pilates ITC social media meets the standards set by the Standards for RTOs 2025, ASQA guidelines, and Australian law.
Definitions
Social Media – Platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and others used by Pilates ITC and its community to engage and share information.
Student Facebook Forum – A private community space managed by Pilates ITC, designed for student peer support and course-related conversations.
Defamation – Making false statements that harm someone’s reputation.
Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) – The law that governs how your personal and sensitive information must be handled.
Explicit Consent – A clear, informed, and voluntary agreement given by an individual to participate in or be included in a recording, activity, or communication. This consent must be:
Clearly communicated—either in writing or verbally, without ambiguity.
Informed—the individual understands what they are consenting to, including how the recording will be used, shared, and stored.
Voluntary—given freely, without pressure, coercion, or manipulation.
Specific—covers the exact context, purpose, and scope of the consent (e.g., social media use, educational sharing).
Consent must be obtained before any recording takes place and can be withdrawn at any time. If withdrawn, the recording must no longer be used or shared.
Who This Policy Applies To
You, as a student using any of Pilates ITC’s social media spaces.
Pilates ITC’s official accounts and platforms.
Any social media content shared about Pilates ITC by students, educators, or staff.
Our Policy
General Social Media Conduct
We expect everyone in our community to engage online with honesty and professionalism.
Be accurate and truthful – Any posts about Pilates ITC (such as courses, qualifications, services) must reflect accurate information, in line with Clause 4.1 of the Standards for RTOs 2025 and Australian Consumer Law.
Maintain professionalism – Even when using personal accounts, our team will represent Pilates ITC respectfully and fairly.
Student Facebook Forum Guidelines
Respect matters – All comments and posts should be constructive, inclusive, and kind. Harassment, defamation, or offensive content is not acceptable.
No sales, no spam – Please don’t promote products, services, or use the space for private sales.
Protect privacy – Never share another student’s information, comments, or photos without permission. This is a breach of our policy and the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).
Stay on purpose – The forum exists for learning support, peer-to-peer encouragement, and sharing industry-relevant content.
Public Comments and Industry Representation
Please avoid making comments that could damage Pilates ITC’s reputation or spread misinformation.
Don’t share statements that could misrepresent your relationship with Pilates ITC, especially around qualifications or credentials.
Avoid negative commentary about other organisations or industry bodies.
Use of Recordings and Consent
To protect privacy and uphold ethical standards, any media shared on social platforms must comply with Pilates ITC’s Filming and Recording Policy. This includes:
Obtaining explicit, informed, voluntary, and specific consent from all individuals featured in any photo, video, or audio recording.
Not sharing any recordings captured for accessibility purposes, which are strictly for private use.
Ensuring that any shared content does not include course content, active learning sessions, or intellectual property unless formally approved.
Clearly crediting Pilates ITC in any public post that documents your personal learning journey.
Respecting the right of educators and fellow students to decline being recorded or featured.
Confidentiality and Consent
You must not:
Post names, photos, or personal information about others without their explicit, informed, and voluntary consent.
Share videos, screen recordings, or any other media that includes other students or staff unless you have obtained explicit consent in accordance with the Filming and Recording Policy.
Bullying and Harassment
We have zero tolerance for online bullying, intimidation, or exclusion. This includes:
Offensive or abusive language.
Targeted comments or repeated criticism.
Deliberate attempts to make others feel unsafe online.
If we receive a report about this kind of behaviour, we will investigate it promptly and take appropriate action.
Legal and Ethical Standards
All online activity through Pilates ITC platforms must comply with:
Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) – Respecting and protecting personal information
Australian Consumer Law – Ensuring all information shared about courses is fair and transparent
Defamation law – Avoiding statements that could damage reputations
Clause 8.5 of the Standards for RTOs 2025 – Following the law and maintaining professional integrity online
Clause 5.2 of the Standards for RTOs 2025 – Protecting student information and ensuring ethical conduct in the use of recordings
Reporting and Accountability
How to Report
If you see or experience inappropriate content or behaviour:
Email our Management Team at administration@pilatesitc.edu.au.
We treat reports confidentially and take them seriously.
What Happens Next
Depending on what’s reported, action may include:
Content removal.
A warning or follow-up with the person involved.
Loss of access to social media groups for serious breaches.
Escalation to legal authorities if necessary.
Ongoing Monitoring
We regularly review the Student Facebook Forum and other official platforms. We also update this policy yearly to stay in step with new platforms, risks, and expectations.
Responsibilities
You (as a student)
Be respectful and professional on any Pilates ITC platform.
Don’t post defamatory, offensive, or false information.
Use the Student Forum only for peer support and professional discussion.
Comply with the Filming and Recording Policy when sharing any media.
Obtain explicit consent before featuring others in any content.
Do not share accessibility-related recordings or course content publicly.
Credit Pilates ITC when sharing personal learning journey posts.
Our Team
Posts accurate, respectful, and helpful content.
Protects your personal and sensitive information.
Monitors social channels and investigates concerns.
Upholds the Filming and Recording Policy across all platforms.
