Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) Policy and Procedure

Edited

Purpose

At Pilates ITC, we value the experience and skills you bring with you. Whether gained through previous study, industry roles, or life experience, this policy supports you to receive credit for your existing competencies through our structured Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) process. It ensures fairness, transparency, and compliance with the Standards for RTOs 2025 and ASQA guidelines.

Definitions

  • Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) – A formal process that assesses your existing skills and knowledge—regardless of how you acquired them—to determine competency

  • Gap Training – Short, targeted training designed to address specific gaps in your knowledge or skills identified during the RPL process

  • Student Support Team – Your go-to contact point for guidance during your RPL journey

  • Complaints and Appeals Policy – A formal process you can follow if you believe your RPL outcome was unfair or inaccurate

Who This Policy Applies To

  • Students who wish to apply RPL toward a full qualification, a pathway, or specific units

  • Pilates ITC Careers Team and educators involved in the consultation, assessment, and approval of RPL applications

Our Policy

RPL Eligibility

You're eligible to apply for RPL if you:

  • Indicate your interest in RPL before finalising your enrolment

  • Can provide clear, valid, and sufficient evidence that demonstrates your competency

  • Are prepared to complete all steps outlined in our RPL assessment process

RPL Procedure

Initial Consultation

  • Let us know you’d like to pursue RPL before enrolling

  • A member of our Careers Team will explain:

    • The process and timeline

    • What types of evidence are required

    • Associated fees (refer to the Fees Schedule)

Submit Your Evidence

You'll be asked to upload documentation that demonstrates your experience and competency. This may include:

  • Employment history and role descriptions

  • References from professional contacts

  • Written responses to RPL-specific questions

  • Video demonstrations of practical skills

  • Signed compliance records

All documentation must be organised in the OneDrive folder we provide, using the supplied subfolders for clarity and efficient marking.

Timeframes

  • You'll usually have 4–6 weeks to complete and submit your RPL kit

  • Once submitted, our Student Support Team will allocate your kit to an educator for marking, which may take up to 4 weeks

  • We’ll let you know if additional time is needed for review

Assessment Outcomes

Your educator will assess your submission and determine one of two outcomes:

  • Satisfactory – You’ll receive a Statement of Attainment or Certificate and Record of Results.

  • Not Yet Satisfactory – Feedback will be provided, and Gap Training may be recommended

Gap Training

Gap Training helps fill any areas not fully covered in your RPL submission.

  • The first round of Gap Training is included in your RPL fee

  • You're encouraged to complete Gap Training after your initial RPL submission

  • If Gap Training is done before submission and further gaps are identified afterward, additional costs may apply (see the Fees Schedule)

  • If you choose not to complete included Gap Training, no refund applies

Resubmissions

  • After Gap Training, resubmission is generally due within 2 weeks, unless advised otherwise by your educator

  • Additional Gap Training or repeat resubmissions may attract further fees

Appeals

If you feel your RPL outcome was not assessed fairly, you're welcome to request a review under our Complaints and Appeals Policy, available in the Student Handbook and on our website.
